Best Hybrid Vehicles You Can Buy in 2023
Most of the hybrids you see on the road are boring, but this technology can be put to use to make serious speed.
Not all hybrids are boring. These cars prove it. From 1000-plus-hp supercars to electrically assisted luxury barges, here are some of the coolest hybrids you can buy new right now.
2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray
Price: $104,295
The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is the first hybridized Corvette ever, pairing the base Stingray's 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 to an electric motor up front for all-wheel-drive (another Corvette first). Combined, the two energy sources make 655 hp—just 15 fewer than the top-level Z06.
2023 Toyota Prius
Price: $28,545
The Toyota Prius is not the first car that comes to mind when you think performance. It's true, Toyota's practical hybrid hatchback can't match the speeds of the other cars found on this list, but it's way more fun to drive and way better-looking than the outgoing car. For a car that can get up to 57 mpg, there's not much more you can ask for.
2024 Honda Accord Hybrid
Price: $28,390
Sedans may be a dying breed, but there's a reason the Honda Accord is still so popular. It looks great and drives even better. The hybrid models get a 204-hp drive system that pairs a four-cylinder to two electric motors.
2024 BMW XM
Price: $159,995
The BMW XM is the M department's first standalone vehicle since the legendary mid-engine M1 supercar. It's also the first-ever M-badged hybrid, using a twin-turbo V-8 and an electric motor sandwiched in the transmission to make 644 hp. While the exterior design is questionable, the cabin is easily the nicest from BMW, ever.
2023 Volvo V60 T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered
Price: $71,645
The V60 T8 has a fascinating powertrain setup. Powering the front wheels is a turbocharged inline-four, while spinning the back wheels is a battery-powered motor with 22 miles of pure electric range. Total output is 455 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque—not bad for a Volvo station wagon.
2024 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance
Price: $95,000 (est.)
The V-8 might be gone, but don't think the C 63 has gone soft. In its place sits one of the most powerful inline-fours ever, paired to a motor at the rear integrated into the rear axle. The trick system powers all four wheels, pushing out a total of 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque.
2024 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance
Price: $270,000 (est.)
Can't reconcile the loss of the V-8 in your new AMG? Don't worry, the company hasn't fully abandoned the engine configuration just yet. The new S 63 is also a hybrid, but it keeps AMG's tried and true twin-turbo V-8 under the hood. Total output is a gargantuan 791 hp and 1055 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful sedan from AMG ever.
2023 Toyota Sienna
Price: $38,220
The Toyota Sienna is the best minivan on sale right now. Not only does it look great, but it also has an interior that far outclasses competitors from Chrysler and Honda. The only choice of powertrain is a 245-hp hybrid system that pairs a 2.5-liter inline-four to two electric motors. There's even available all-wheel-drive, which adds a third electric motor in the back to drive the rear axle.
2023 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid
Price: $63,320
The words "truck" and "hybrid" don't usually go together, but in the world of Ford, they make an excellent all-rounder pickup. The F-150 Hybrid makes 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque, and can double as a generator for all of your power tools or tailgating supplies.
2023 Ford Maverick
Price: $24,170
In base form, the Ford Maverick is one of the most compelling vehicles on sale today. The standard powertrain is a hybrid setup that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder to an electric motor, for a combined output of 191 hp. That's plenty for daily-driver duties and hauling stuff around. For the price, it's impossible to beat.
2023 Bentley Flying Spur S Hybrid
Price: $243,225
Just because you want to travel in ultimate luxury doesn't mean you have to suffer at the pump. Bentley makes a V-6 hybrid version of its popular Flying Spur sedan, complete with the same stunning looks and world-class interior as the normal car.
2023 Ferrari SF90 Stradale
Price: $528,765
The SF90 Stradale is Ferrari's first mainstream production plug-in hybrid, making 986 horsepower thanks to a twin-turbo V-8 and three electric motors. Power goes to all four wheels, allowing for a 0-60 time of just 2.5 seconds. Ferrari really knows how to do hybrids right.
2023 Ferrari 296 GTB
Price: $342,205
The Ferrari 296 GTB might not have the AWD grip or the V-8 sound from its bigger SF90 sibling, but with 818 hp on deck from a hybrid twin-turbo V-6, it's anything but slow.
2023 McLaren Artura
Price: $237,500
Coincidentally, McLaren also makes a hybridized, twin-turbo V-6-powered mid-engine supercar. It's called the Artura, and while it doesn't make as much power as the Ferrari, it's also much cheaper and drives better than most of the brand's other cars.
2023 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo
Price: $201,850
It might have the longest, most unoriginal name of any car out there, but trust us, the top-tier hybrid Panamera is a hell of a car. It makes an astounding 680 combined horsepower, and that sweet Sport Turismo wagon body style makes it even better.
2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie
Price: $3,500,000 (est.)
The Valkyrie uses a Cosworth Formula 1-based V-12 combined with electric power to propel it down the road. It also looks like an actual LMP1 car for the road. It doesn't get much cooler than this.
2023 Mercedes-AMG One
Price: $2,700,000 (est.)
The AMG One uses two front-mounted electric motors to power the front wheels, and the hybrid turbo V-6 powertrain from AMG's F1 cars to spin the rears. If that's not cool enough for you, just know it also hold the record for quickest production car around the Nürburgring.
